Meet our Emcee

Tom Caron

NESN Red Sox Analyst

Tom Caron serves as studio host for NESN’s Boston Red Sox coverage. His duties include hosting the network’s two, half-hour pre-game shows, “Red Sox First Pitch presented by Joseph Abboud” and “Red Sox Gameday LIVE present by Digital Federal Credit Union”, and following the game, “W.B. Mason’s Red Sox Extra Innings LIVE” as well as “Red Sox Final.” Furthermore, it is not unusual to see Caron in the booth during Spring Training calling the Red Sox games in Fort Myers. Caron also serves as the play-by-play announcer for NESN’s Hockey East telecasts and as the host for “The Instigators,” which airs weekly during the NHL season. In addition, Tom hosts various feature vignettes and programs for NESN throughout the hockey season. The multi-talented sports media personality joined NESN in 1995 as co-host of “Front Row”, a nightly sports magazine program. In polls conducted by Charter Media and Market Research, Caron is consistently named New England’s favorite TV sports personality year after year.

Caron began his career as a sports reporter covering the Vermont Reds, Cincinnati’s AA affiliate, for a daily newspaper in Vermont. After leaving Vermont he took a job at WPTZ-TV in Plattsburgh, NY where he covered the Montreal Canadians and Montreal Expos. Following a stint as sports anchor at WNNE-TV in Hanover, New Hampshire, Caron moved onto WGME-TV in Portland, Maine in 1988 where he took a job as a sports anchor. In the five years Caron was at WGME-TV, he also hosted a weekly ski segment and produced a number of half-hour sports specials. In 1993, Caron left WGME-TV and joined WPXT-TV as a sports reporter. Aside from being a sports reporter, Caron also hosted a weekly hockey feature and provided play-by-play for the Portland Pirates as well as the New England Stingers of Roller Hockey International.

Caron has won three New England Emmy Awards, a New York State Broadcasters Award, two James Ellery Awards (for excellence in covering the American Hockey League) and the ECAC Media Award. In 2014, he was inducted into the Portland Pirates Hall of Fame.

A native of Lewiston, Maine, Caron now lives near Boston with his wife and two sons. When he is not covering Boston’s favorite sports teams, he like to play golf and “driveway hockey”. Colleagues often refer to Tom as “TC.”
